After Cataract Surgery
After surgery the eye may be mildly red and occasionally a little irritated but
in most cases it is
not painful. Eye drops will be required for a few weeks after surgery. There will
be a number of
postoperative visits following the cataract operation. Usually medication changes
will be made during
these visits. The eye is monitored to make sure it is progressing as expected
following the cataract
surgery
Vision may be blurred for a period of time after surgery. There are often small
refractive errors after
cataract surgery and spectacles will be needed to "fine tune" vision. The first
set of spectacles can often be fit within three weeks after surgery. However, because the eye
changes for a period of time
after surgery a number of spectacle fits may be required until the best final
vision is obtained
following cataract surgery.
